NYC PUPIL EYECARE SERVICES
At NYC Pupil, our Doctors and our entire team are committed to providing advanced vision care in a professional and comfortable environment. As Optometrists on Staten Island, our primary eye care service includes a complete eye exam that analyzes eye health and visual function. In addition to eye exams and vision testing, the Doctors and our team of optometry professionals provide testing for lazy eye, tracking, focusing, visual processing, and medical testing for glaucoma, cataracts and macular degeneration.
Our evaluation begins with a very detailed questionnaire that can be completed prior to your visit on line, or mailed or dropped off at our office prior to your visit. Any additional information (school performance testing, prior eye examination records, therapy reports) are extremely helpful for the doctor to review before your visit. Expect your testing to last from 1 to 1 1/2 hours. The purpose of this testing is to determine if visual information is being acquired and processed comfortably, clearly, accurately, and efficiently. This requires the two eyes to be able to focus correctly, align so that you do not see double vision, and both eyes are tracking efficiently. The doctor will determine and make recommendations pertaining to length and frequency of Vision Therapy.
The Doctors and the NYC Pupil team take even comprehensive eye exams very seriously. During a yearly or bi-yearly examination, our patients will receive a detailed medical and ocular history, eye pressure assessment, visual acuity, peripheral vision screening, eye muscle balance testing, determination of your prescription, pupil reaction assessment, and a detailed internal and external ocular health examination. Ocular images will be taken for documentation and proper follow up care.
This testing identifies difficulties in processing visual information and the ability of the individual to integrate this information to lead their actions. This testing determines visual perceptual abilities such as: identification, discrimination, spatial awareness, directionality (letter reversals), visualization, visual-sensory integration, visual-gross motor coordination, visual-fine motor coordination, and visual memory. Visual processing abilities are important in the classroom and workplace.
Not sure that glasses are for you? Advances in the field of optometry have produced a variety of different types of contact lenses with a range of benefits. Daily-wear soft, extended-wear disposable, and planned replacement are the various types of contact lens options available today. Our doctor will discuss the various options with you to determine which type will best fit your needs and lifestyle. They are many advantages to consider when determining if contact lenses are right for you and our knowledgeable staff is here to answer any questions.
Over 10 Million U.S. children have myopia, by 2050, half of the world's population is predicted to be myopic. The Doctors at NYC Pupil are alarmed at the progression of myopia and deterioration in the child's vision. They provide options to families of latest research in slowing down and in some cases stopping the progression of myopia. The options vary from compounded eye drop to day time specialty contact lenses to overnight correction with corneal reshaping lenses. They will make recommendations to each child and family after a complete evaluation.
Laser assisted in situ keratomileusis, commonly referred to as LASIK, is a corrective alternative to glasses or contact lenses. Like glasses or contact lenses, LASIK is a method for treating refractive conditions including nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. At NYC Pupil, the Doctors provides pre- and post-operative exams for LASIK and other eye procedures.
